Do you have a guilty please collector car? For example, I liked the Bee Gees but I couldn't tell my friends. Here is mine. Went to school with a kid that drove a rusted out one. I wanted a HEMI car but had a strange attraction to the Karmen Ghia.

Here’s a classic case of a car guy trying to solve one problem, which creates another. One of my customers has a mechanical shop in town and he has a ‘66 Chevelle 396 that he’s had since new and is has almost flawless original paint on it. It’s unbelievably nice. The original engine was getting a little tired. So rather than rebuilding the original, he gets the bright idea of putting a crate engine in to get it going “quicker”. But we’re not talking basic rebuilt 396 crate engine here. No no, we’re talking dynoed at almost 900hp big block with this massive intake and carburetor on it. So now he can’t close the hood. 🤦🏻‍♂️Okay, so now what? Mutilating the original hood would be a crime on this thing, as would putting some cheapo cowl induction hood on it. So he found a decent plain hood and made a clearance hole for the air cleaner which he’s going to put a trim molding around. Thankfully, he’s doing the right thing and setting the original hood and engine aside for safe keeping, should he ever want to swap it back.

The rest of the story is my problem, I’m afraid. This hood is decent but not great. So I’ll have to turn it into something worthy of being put on such a nice car. The good news is that the car is solid red, so I should be able to tweak the color to match well without getting into any of the original paint. How do I get myself into these things?

Had a good, used transmission cover for the Model T dropped off today.
The cast iron cover is from a 1920 T and will be replacing the early aluminum cover that is currently on the car.
This needs to be done to allow the starter motor to be added as per my customer's request.
I'm going to be cleaning up the the cover and machining it for shaft o-rings to help keep some of the oil inside.
I'm going to be moving the pedals and shafts to the iron cover and setting everything up.
This car has been upgraded with external bad adjusters and everything was there and working the last time I was in here. Not sure why the adjusters were double-nutted when it got to me this time but that makes them not-eternally-adjustable.
I'm going to have to re-make the missing parts to make these adjusters work again since they're not being reproduced any longer. #sgmechanicalservice #ifixstuffyoucant #prewarcars #modeltford

So I open up an industry magazine today and I see this. I have no words. 😳

Prewar folks how do you mentally catagorize this period? For me it's just a way to think about certain cars:

Brass & Nickel, highwheels maybe as well.

Classic

Early Ford
- T and earlier
- model A
- early V8

Non-Ford
-Non-Classic "Big3" variants

Independents

Foreign with early MG it's own class (I guess because I like them)

Junior Packards (same logic as with MG but also a popular car some sr. Folks embrace, others don't. But well supported and interesting in their own right)

Traditional hot rods

Speedsters

I like most anything from the era but I am curious how others might bucket these cars, why or why not.

So true. And now I'm seeing more 'earth tones' like sand, stone, concrete, trail dust (Toyota) and other boring safe colors.

Very rare 1932 Hupmobile I226 Coupe for sale. @Hupp31 can verify the known cars but I think there might only be 3. These "cycle fendered" Hupps have been an interest of mine for decades since I saw a unrestored Victoria for sale in the Choclate field 25 years ago.

I would have put this in the marketplace and linked it but this was a facebook post to the Hupp Cars fro sale group by. Chad Thomas owned and has passed. His wife is selling it. Chad posted once in a while on the AACA and if I remember correclty had a very cool Nash.

There is no price. More pictures in the replies.

Getting the 8 Liter Bentley ready for the Bentley Tour in upstate New York. Will I see you there?

Feast your eyes on this 2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo. One of just 20 cars built with the Evo package, this thing is absolutely insane. It makes over 1,000 horsepower from its hybrid V12 setup. A very special Ferrari.
