Blackwalls VS whitewalls again

Here is yet another example of why I strongly push for black wall tires on fully chrome wheels.  When you have a white wall on a fully chromed wheel, it just drowns out the chrome.   The owner of this car may be convinced, but he’s whitewalls all the way and has stock in bleach white cleaner.

Electric Motorcycles Anyone?

Not a bike guy.  But want feedback from those of you that are.  Would you consider something like this?   My feeds are getting polluted with them ever since I followed something about electric bicycles.

This one has a top speed of 70mph and a range of 80 miles.  It is 11k.   A good option for an urban environment?

1923 Peerless & Flappers

This picture of two flappers on a 1923 Peerless Touring Phaeton is widely known in the antique car enthusiasts and it is also considered an excellent representation of the 1920s era.

However, apparently not much is known about it. On the internet, I could only find a reference of the picture being taken in San Francisco bay area.

As we are in the Peerless Society, maybe we should know more about it.

What was the purpose of that photograph? Commercial, artistic, domestic, profissional, fun…? Who were those young ladies? What was the message behind that imagina? Was it planned? Who took the picture?

I was planning to ask these questions in the AACA forum, but i believe we should do this here first!

Thoughts? Any historical references?

Farnham and Nelson Bodies

When I was a kid family vacations were car shows, tours and swap meets. To entertain myself at swap meets I would search for vintage car advertisements. I found a Locomobile ad with a body I had not seen before. It had a low windshield and a dual cowl, I was excited and needed to know more about it. I bought the ad for $1.00. I asked around and found out the body builder was Farnham and Nelson. Fast forward to 1996, I was looking through Hemmings Motor News and there was a 1919 Loco with the same body for sale. The timing was bad so we didn’t buy it. Years go by and my dad gets a call from Bill Ruger Jr, he has a Locomobile he wants to sell, it’s the same 1919 Farnham and Nelson bodied Locomobile. His dad Bill Sr. had given it to Fran Roxas for a full restoration but unfortunately passed away. Bill Jr wasn’t interested in keeping it because they don’t have much room up front and was too uncomfortable for him to drive. We didn’t want to restore it so we put it back together. There are two other Loco’s with this body, a 1917 and a 1920, both with cape tops. Ours has a full top. Our 1919 and the surviving 1920 are only one body number apart…#9607 and #9608. This dual cowl body was designed by J. Frank de Causse and built by Farnham and Nelson. It first appeared on a Locomobile chassis in 1916. It is the first dual cowl design.  If the owners of the other two cars want to chime in that would be great.

87 Corvette Daily for now

Went to Maine on a little family vacation earlier this year and while we were up there we stopped by the owls head auction. while we were on our way to the auction this car comes up for sale. It was a cheap price so we placed a bid and next thing you know we end up winning. Now over the last few months, all of its problems have been fixed and its ready to be sold. glad I get to drive around in it for now.

1914 Pathfinder driveshaft repairs

Started on sorting out the driveshaft.
The  keyway being beaten out raised some metal on tapered part of the shaft.
I put the shaft in the lathe and skimmed the raised metal off of the taper. This also showed me that the taper was slightly worn in a couple places from the pinion rocking  back and forth.
I took about 0.003" off to restore a proper taper, then used some lapping compound to fit the taper to the gear perfectly.
I'm going to take a little bit off the shoulder to ensure the pinion nut doesn't bottom on the shoulder before seating the gear tightly. Then I'm going to cut a new keyway.
