I'm thinking many of you on here are familiar with McPherson College.  It stands alone as the only school to provide a bachelor’s degree in Restoration Technology.  I've met several of their graduates through the years, and just learned last year that they have a summer Institute.  Going back to college for a week with interesting topics for study......perfect for an old "soon to be retired" guy like me.  

History, Paint, trim upholstery, babbiting, electrical, etc......check out the syllabus.  I believe it is too late for anything this year but if any of this looks interesting, talk to a buddy or two and sign up early for next summer.  I have a friend who has done it at least twice and he's encouraging me to jump in with him next summer.  Just putting this out for anyone who finds cars more interesting than their day job........

Most of these things I knew already but every day is an adventure.   When you are showing a car at Pebble the car needs to be there by Tuesday night before the Sunday show.  Wed arrival and you are asking for trouble.   The cars are garaged in the trailer lot inside the trailers.   You need to be nice to your driver as he is doing stuff for you all week long.

To me there are 3 major "boutique" large transports:  Passport, Reliable and Intercity.  I think Intercity might be the smallest of the three but they are based near me, although that means nothing for the truck.   I have typically used Intercity and never had problem.  

Things to think about:

1.  If you are coming from the east coast to the west coast and back enclosed with a boutique transport company you are spending 10k.

2. Pickup windows and drop off windows are merely a suggestion.   I told Intercity we could have the car ready to go by 8/1 which would give them 10 days to get it across the country.   They called me on afternoon of the Tues 28th to tell me the truck would be there in the morning.   I told them we were not ready and agreed on Thursday morning (30th).    Trucker called me yesterday and said he had to get it on Wed (29th).  It was pouring out here.  Fortunately all I needed to do was pack it, it was ready to go otherwise.

3. Be sure to video tape your entire car when it is sitting in front of the transport for load.  These guys are professionals, but stuff happens.   I, of course, forget because I was timing it to not get soaked and basically pulled up to drive on.  The driver does a full photo/video set just before you pull on.

4. Make sure you have starting instructions in the car.  Make sure the driver knows how to shift the car also.  Cross country there is a 90% shot your car is coming off the trailer at least once between east coast and Pebble.   This is typical for any transport in any haul btw.

5.  Be sure to have the Drivers name and contact info.  Also be able to identify his truck in a sea of trucks in the truck lot.

6.  Bring a wad of cash to tip your driver.  He is babysitting your car all week and not rolling miles.  Do not believe they get paid to sit there.

Rebuilt the carburetor on the pony engine for this old John Deere 820 tractor.
The tractor is a big, twin cylinder diesel. A tiny, V4 gas engine is mounted on top. The pony engine is started with an electric starter and once it is up to speed, a clutch is engaged to turn over the big diesel engine.
I think Rube Goldberg might have been employed at John Deere.

He’s authored numerous books, many focused on Henry Ford, Edsel Ford, Ford dealerships, and the people who helped shape the automotive industry.

Jay Leno is a fan of Henry’s books and recently made a personal visit to pick up a copy. It was pretty special to see two people with such a deep appreciation for automotive history together.

Designed and built by Detroit artist and engineer James Scripps Booth, the Bi-Autogo had two conventional wooden-spoke wheels, along with two pairs of smaller retractable outrigger wheels to keep it balanced. Its three-seat body was powered by a 45-hp V8—the first V8 built in Detroit. Check out the distinctive external copper-tube radiator. Weighing in at about 3,200 pounds, if it fell over you were screwed. Only one was ever built, and today it is part of the Detroit Historical Society's collection.

First time in two years this has been out.  I love this car.

This is a no reserve auction.. Should be very interesting to see if it goes above or below retail!!!

The Dayton was one of the many cyclecars of the teens.  It was built in Joliet, Illinois in a building that still exists today.  I knew of this car through my parents church membership.  At time of photos it was in Palos Heights, Illinois, not far from Joliet.  It had since relocated to Texas west of Fort Worth where I have lost contact.  I've posted it on various sites over the years.  Thought Rumbleseat a good place for it to be seen now.  
Have never found that any other Dayton exists.  Did find a newspaper clipping that there was a race to prove the car's viability from Joliet to Chicago.  By the looks of this car, I'm guessing that this car survives because it was the car that won the race.   Posting for the sale of history.   BTW, the Joliet museum had NO information when I visited there!

Getting gas on Sunday this AMX was next pump over.  I waited for the owner to come out and was surprised to see a lady.   Talked her about the car and she was driving back  to NY City after a trip up north.  500 miles round trip.  She bought the car in 1971 as a 2 year old used car.  It is a 390 automatic.    Heading down 495 in Massachusetts to get on 95 to Ney City.  

Yes, I was impressed.
