People smile at this car, which sounds like nothing until you know it lives in England, where drivers do not often smile at each other.

Steve Theo is 72 and has been making photographs since 1970. He wanted a Mustang from the moment he saw the black and gold GT350 in Grand Prix, got his first one in 1988, and found this red 1965 fastback three years ago. Three pedals is more or less the entire specification — he has no use for cars or cameras that do the work for him.

He learned the trade at sixteen under a photographer named John Maltby, built and lit sets in camera for Glamour and Cosmopolitan because there was no fixing things afterward, and spent seven years of weekends photographing Senna and Lauda at Brands Hatch and Silverstone without ever getting a frame published. He printed it all himself, burning in and shading out with his hands under the lens, counting seconds in his head.

The car turned 61 this year. He had it serviced and pointed it at France. 1,200 miles later he came back calling it fantastic.

As AI creeps deeper into our society, changing careers and impacting lives, I am curious how others here feel about its impact on this hobby?  

The proliferation of images that are fake, the bias instilled into the product from initial coding, the speed at possibly getting answers to complex questions (and the unknown accuracy of that quick response)…….   The impact seems to be “finding its way” as it is applied in different ways to the car hobby.   Like all technology, it is a tool, for better or worse.

I’ve recently been playing around with Google Gemini to help visualize paint options on a car I own.   It has limitations, but it is a nice way to very quickly take a look and consider different colors.

What do you find annoying and helpful regarding AI and our esteemed hobby?

Most of my stuff would probably be called junk more than art but I get the point they are making.  This came up in my yahoo feed and it made me stop and think.   You guys have an opinion?   My kids don't want my stuff and I need to start thinning.  How does this impact antique cars?

I made it home. Put 3500km on the truck. Got some work done for some clients and dragged home more stuff.
1933 Raleigh is in the back of the tow beast.
Scooter on the motorcycle carrier.
Bins of parts for the Raleigh in the back seat, there's two of almost everything.
Found a good 28/29 Model A hood, a brand new AR multi-disc flywheel, a set of new A connecting rods, a '28 radiator that I forgot I had loaned to my friend and a pair of Guide headlights that will work for a hotrod.
Turns out that Tom Mellor, the Rolls-Royce guy I know rebuilt the engine and gearbox for the Raleigh so I don't have to worry about those.
I'm tired. Taking tomorrow off.

Here is the car from my previous engine video. It is 100% original, with fully rebuilt mechanicals, and this photo really shows off its wonderfully preserved original blue paint.

Still attached to the dashboard is its 1915 California registration, quite possibly dating from the last time the car was regularly on the road.

The survival story is just as remarkable. The car came from a California winery that was eventually taken over by the State after the owners passed away with no heirs. It was literally hours away from being scrapped when it was saved.

An incredible survivor with a pretty fun story behind it.

Crank and rods. These are aftermarket rods as they do not have a BM part number. The entire bottom end is in good shape. I suspect this engine was rebuilt by Mackenzie Guppy in the 1960’s and has done very little mileage since. Mac was a genius and an incredible Bentley engineer.

This is the engine in a 1911 Buick Model 33: a 165-cubic-inch (2.7-liter) four-cylinder valve-in-head engine (OHV), rated at 22.5 horsepower.

You can also see the magneto and water pump...the water pump almost looks like a modern turbocharger. Directly below the spark plugs are the priming cups. When starting a cold engine, these cups are filled with gasoline and then their valves opened, allowing fuel to flow directly into the cylinders.  Makes for an easy and quick start which is strictly by hand crank; the electric starter had not yet made its way into production automobiles.

Also visible are two copper lines running to sight glass on the dashboard, allowing the driver to visually confirm that oil was circulating through the lubrication system.

The brass pipes carry hot coolant/water from the engine to the top of the radiator via the water pump. As the water flows downward through the radiator, heat is dissipated into the surrounding air. The cooled water then exits from the bottom of the radiator and returns to the water pump, where the circulation cycle begins again.

Our Model A Ford club met up for a group picnic this last weekend.  What a fun way to get together and share stories and experiences.  So fun getting to know everyone a little better.  And what a great car collection!
