Flat Out, Together

Hockenheim, West Germany, in May 1957. There’s something completely insane about sidecar racing. The driver is charging flat out while the passenger is basically throwing themselves around the outfit to keep it planted through the corners.

No room for error. Just a motorcycle, a sidecar, two guys, and absolute commitment.

You’ve got to have a serious set of guts to climb into that passenger seat and willingly do this at speed. 🏁

My 6-Year-Old Model X vs. Brand-New Model Y L — The Range Difference Is Incredible

I recently traded in my 6-year-old Model X. When fully charged, the Model X would show an estimated 330 miles of range — almost identical to my brand-new Model Y L, which shows about 332 miles when fully charged.

But the real-world difference on the same 200-mile drive to Durango was HUGE.

With my Model X, I had to keep my speed around 72 mph to make the trip comfortably. Even then, I would arrive with only about 15 miles of estimated range remaining.

I just made the exact same drive in my brand-new Model Y L. This time I was actually driving faster — averaging around 78 mph — and when I arrived, the car showed 125 miles of range remaining. I'm loving this new Tesla!!!

540K parts for sale on BAT, this is not an ad but a question

I know a lot of us are perusing what's for sale and how well things are restored, running, shown, etc. For those of you who have shown at Pebble or are working on a concours item, this brings up a question in my mind. These parts are presumably from the recent restoration of a 540K and I suppose are being sold to recoup a little $$$ and so they don't need to be stored somewhere. It looks like some of the parts were in the process of being rechromed (but 3 mascots and multiple hupcaps aren't needed). Do restorers simply buy 8 of something and use the best 3 or 4 needed? It seems like effort was placed in copper plating some parts but without the final chroming, perhaps as only the best item was selected. I wonder what this random set of parts will bring. Probably the radiator shell is the most important...Here's the listing:

Tariffs have started in Canada.

I'm not trying to get political. If this thread turns that way, I'll just delete it.
Just priced out some Coker 30 x 3.5 all white tires yesterday. There's a 25% tariff on them now.
So because of duty, tax and exchange they nearly double in price by the time they get to me. Now it's even more.
I have a feeling this hobby is about to get very expensive for us up here.

Today, let's have a look at the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Torpedo Roadster, clothed by Saoutchik. A remarkable combination of enormous engineering and beautifully restrained proportions. Nearly a century later, it still looks like the definition of a grand touring automobile. What a delightful vehicle!
