540K parts for sale on BAT, this is not an ad but a question

I know a lot of us are perusing what's for sale and how well things are restored, running, shown, etc. For those of you who have shown at Pebble or are working on a concours item, this brings up a question in my mind. These parts are presumably from the recent restoration of a 540K and I suppose are being sold to recoup a little $$$ and so they don't need to be stored somewhere. It looks like some of the parts were in the process of being rechromed (but 3 mascots and multiple hupcaps aren't needed). Do restorers simply buy 8 of something and use the best 3 or 4 needed? It seems like effort was placed in copper plating some parts but without the final chroming, perhaps as only the best item was selected. I wonder what this random set of parts will bring. Probably the radiator shell is the most important...Here's the listing:

I think this may be a stash from an MB shop (Magna? Not sure on spelling) where the owner is retiring but not 100% sure on that.

Funny, I just bought a stash of 540k parts a few years ago. And I don't own a car. Typically with deals like this you only need to use a few of the parts and it covers the rest, 90% of which may never get used.

The seller is not Henry Magno, but another well known Mercedes restorer. Stuff needs to go to another shop that might be doing a car or may do one.

I was thinking about bidding and then remember I don't own a car and don't need any more stuff.

Those Junkers Jumo fuel pumps are a project he did to use as pass throughs with an electric pump in the tank. This is something I have done in the past also. However, I've come around to want to make them work correctly as they are integral to the supercharger working properly.

It used to be that you could get the originals rebuilt for 10k in Germany but that was 15 years ago. It is probably 25k now if they will still do them.

This reminds me of advice guy I bought my Corvette from back in ancient times. Throw nothing away that pertains to any car you currently own. Little things that could be salvaged off otherwise junk parts have come to the rescue more than once over the years...

Or, you buy a parts car.
Then you realise the same parts wear out on both cars.
Now you own two cars but still don't have the parts you needed in the first place.
Then you start thinking the parts car is really too nice to tear apart so you have two cars that you're looking for parts for.

Shawn, this is great advice and I've only done it once when I was restoring my GT500 Shelby. I bought a 1 owner rust bucket with around the same build month and pulled all kinds of little trinkets and fasteners that made it all worth it.

In retrospect I wish I bought a parts car for my Royale. I would have saved some money.
