Tariffs have started in Canada.

I'm not trying to get political. If this thread turns that way, I'll just delete it.
Just priced out some Coker 30 x 3.5 all white tires yesterday. There's a 25% tariff on them now.
So because of duty, tax and exchange they nearly double in price by the time they get to me. Now it's even more.
I have a feeling this hobby is about to get very expensive for us up here.

I hear you. Hopefully all of this tariff nonsense comes to an end soon. America gets a lot of resources from Canada, including lumber, fuel, aluminum, etc.

Ahhh the good old days, driving to Ottawa from college. All you had to do was flash your driver's license. Customs only cared about how much beer was in the trunk. Even if you declared something it was less than 50% of the time they'd actually check to verify, nevermind paying anything. All we needed to know was the exchange rate....

I remember the days of driving to Montreal with nothing more than a drivers license. 6.5 Hour Dr. for us. It was amazing to me was our rural and how many farms there were as you passed into Canada from Burlington Vermont. There wasn’t a highway that went directly to Montreal from the US at least from New England.

Too bad Blockley doesn't make 23" tires. Heard good things about them and no tariiffs. Not sure of duty though!
Just tried to order from McMaster Carr and the shipping on the order I started in March jumped from $24 to $68. Presuming tariffs are the biggest factor

I'm running Blockley tubes in 2 different cars. As far as tubes go they are top notch. Have not bought tires from them yet. They mostly sell the bigger sizes for RR and Bentely.

I just placed a McMaster order for some bearings and a keyslot cutter and the shipping was $24.95US. I'll update if it changes.

I just did a Mcmaster order a few weeks ago and it was also 25 bucks for a small item. They only have one charge it seems, or at least an exorbitant minimum

I wonder if the extra shipping charge was because your order was coming from multiple warehouses.

Shawn, I swearI buy a single 10 dollar item and the shipping is 25 dollars. I have never bought anything from them that is not 25 dollars to ship. I'm usually ok about it because it is some obscure piece of something and it can't be found anywhere else.

I'm happy to pay $25 to have exactly what I wanted, delivered intwo days from halfway across the country.
Getting everything I ordered would take a whole day of my time in town, going to multiple stores and having to watch counter monkeys attempt to comprehend simple instructions.

Mcmaster is expensive on the pack and ship but it is the only place you can find certain fasteners and weird things you have to have.

I bought 7 photos from an auction in Germany a couple of weeks ago. Fedex handles the tariff charges after they deliver. In fact it is a text message with a link which smelled badly of a scam the first time I saw itl.

Speaking of tariffs, classic cars are one of the few things exempt from them. Looks like someone is keeping a eye out for the hobby.

Anything built in the US should not be subject to tariff returning to the US. A car built in Canada being shipped to the US might be though?

Where do you draw the line though?
Cars are "world products" these days. Assembled from parts made all over the planet.
American cars assembled in Canada are built from parts from the USA, Canada and other places, just like cars built in America. What gets a tariff and what doesnt?
Camry's are "Japanese cars" but they're built in Ontario. The Camry is a North American car, it's precious, beige little soul was designed for our market and doesn't even exist in Japan.
Volkswagens are "German" but built in Mexico.
I don't want this to turn political but this silliness isn't good for either of our countries.
I used to have a healthy little side-hustle selling 2nd-gen F-body parts to the USA. For ten years I crossed the border once a week to ship out parts from a shipping depot in Point Roberts, WA. Those nice folks have gone out of business, thanks to all of this. US border towns get a lot of business from Canucks coming down for cheap gas and groceries. The Costco parking lot in Bellingham was always full of Canadian license plates.
I'm not mad about it, just disappointed and frustrated.
