I’ve gotten fairly numb to how expensive paint is these days but even I got sticker shock over this. I had to order two special limited edition toners for this one car. Not a special custom color or anything. Actually, it’s on a lowly Chevy Trax, which is about the saddest vehicle ever to wear a bow tie. Look at these prices for a 180ml bottle.  Those numbers are USD, not pesos. My language when I looked at the invoice would have offended anyone who hasn’t spent time in either prison or the navy.

This came across my ebay feed and gave me some nostalgia as a guy that grew up in the 70s.  The first 1/2 of the decade and the 2nd have are different for sure but there are undeniable triggers for me that bring me back.  This hot rod pint reminds me of going to hot rod shows with my uncles.    Do you have any cool photos from that era that trigger memories for you?

When I sent the Bentley out to have its brakes done, I was told that the King Pins had issues and needed to be replaced.  We ordered new, exact reproductions from England and thought this would be an easy install. Turns out the old king pins had been loose from wear and had hardened pins hammered in to lock them in place. This was done many years ago. And a cluster to remove!    After no luck, my mechanic removed the axle and took it to his favorite machine shop that had a 20 ton press. With a gentle nudge the king pins  were free!  Axle back in car torqued to 120 ft/lbs, new axle bolts grade 8 with grade 8 nuts (heads ground so they look old), lock washered and locktited!!  Better than new!!!

Guys,  my brother in law lives on the east coast but this car is a 4 hour drive for me.   He is infatuated with it and wants me to take a day off from work this week and drive over to see it.   It is a little out of my area of expertise.  My brother in law is a decent enough mechanic but not a body guy at all.  So not sure how much he can do on his own vs paying someone.   The buy price is 13k which seems reasonable.  But the rust photos make me wonder.

Any thoughts or wisdom to get me out of this?

Dreary day in New England and I needed to get out of the house. I need to run this car every 90 days or so and it was about time. It always starts no problem. A well sorted RR is a thing of beauty. One that has not bee properly maintained is your worst nightmare.

Hello all, does anyone have any information regarding what oil in best to use on the royale or any reo/pre war car apart from sae 30 as to what is in manuals or other oils with higer zinc levels in the like lucas hot rod-classic car oil etc. Thanks in advance.

1926 Duesenberg arrives late afternoon from Pebble Beach Concours. Took a while to get it unloaded as darkness approached.   Glad all the lights  worked albeit not very well! 😂

This gentleman has a restoration shop just up the hill from my shop and he’s an inspiration. A former high school shop teacher turned Jaguar restorer after he, get this, lost his sight. This is a very well done documentary on his story.

It's home and unloaded. There's six bins of parts with it and multiples of nearly everything.
Now, what do I do with it?
Should I pass it one to someone else?
Put it back together and use it?
Restoration would be uneconomical.
I think sympathetic reassembly would be the way to  go. Put it together and make it nice but not too nice.
Maybe a good shop project to generate some business. Put my logo on the side.
