Move over, truck nuts

Wire nuts...for EV trucks have arrived. Pretty funny. But in all seriousness, I had no idea there was a Silverado EV. I'm kind of liking this.

Imagine if Tesla built a truck that looked like this? Every manufacture that is not Tesla is behind the eight ball. I wish them luck and they style is pretty cool but color me skeptical after the F150 Lightening went belly up.

I suspect technology will eventually fix this, but I still see it as a barrier for some people that if you have a towing rig, you can get off the road and pull into a gas station and in perhaps three minutes at the pump, put 20 gallons in and get back on the road for another 380 miles. I’m aware of all the arguments to push back against that, but there is a significant group of people that can’t get over that one stumbling block.

That is true John but that is an edge case for 90% of the people. Using me as an example, I have to fill my truck once a week like clockwork. The gas station is about 5 minutes out of the way, I spend 5 minutes pumping and then 5 minutes getting back on track. That is 52 x 15 minute of my time used up filling my tank.

That is 13 hours of time I'm using up per year. If it was electric I would plug it in every night and use up zero time. If I used it on a trip, then yes, instead of a 10 minute pit stop it would be 25. but I would never come close to the 13 hours I'm wasting right now.

Towing is a different problem and for now diesel is the answer.

I have an open mind about all new EVs but they get the styling right but the tech wrong most of the time. Will see I guess.
