Another sunny day in southern Florida………. Just another fancy Fiat. Enzo’s personal car, 1952 if my memory is correct. One of one. What we call in Palm Beach a “Big Boy Toy”.

This is my 1911 Buick model 33 touring. Fully rebuilt from fan to rear axle. 100% original. Just had the water pump rebuilt, and now is ready for touring.

Here’s a classic case of a car guy trying to solve one problem, which creates another. One of my customers has a mechanical shop in town and he has a ‘66 Chevelle 396 that he’s had since new and is has almost flawless original paint on it. It’s unbelievably nice. The original engine was getting a little tired. So rather than rebuilding the original, he gets the bright idea of putting a crate engine in to get it going “quicker”. But we’re not talking basic rebuilt 396 crate engine here. No no, we’re talking dynoed at almost 900hp big block with this massive intake and carburetor on it. So now he can’t close the hood. 🤦🏻‍♂️Okay, so now what? Mutilating the original hood would be a crime on this thing, as would putting some cheapo cowl induction hood on it. So he found a decent plain hood and made a clearance hole for the air cleaner which he’s going to put a trim molding around. Thankfully, he’s doing the right thing and setting the original hood and engine aside for safe keeping, should he ever want to swap it back.

The rest of the story is my problem, I’m afraid. This hood is decent but not great. So I’ll have to turn it into something worthy of being put on such a nice car. The good news is that the car is solid red, so I should be able to tweak the color to match well without getting into any of the original paint. How do I get myself into these things?

Had a good, used transmission cover for the Model T dropped off today.
The cast iron cover is from a 1920 T and will be replacing the early aluminum cover that is currently on the car.
This needs to be done to allow the starter motor to be added as per my customer's request.
I'm going to be cleaning up the the cover and machining it for shaft o-rings to help keep some of the oil inside.
I'm going to be moving the pedals and shafts to the iron cover and setting everything up.
This car has been upgraded with external bad adjusters and everything was there and working the last time I was in here. Not sure why the adjusters were double-nutted when it got to me this time but that makes them not-eternally-adjustable.
I'm going to have to re-make the missing parts to make these adjusters work again since they're not being reproduced any longer. #sgmechanicalservice #ifixstuffyoucant #prewarcars #modeltford
