REFUSED BEER, HE BREAKS UP TAVERN
Cleveland, Ohio... Mike "Ickey" Mesko wasn't fooling when he told the bartender at Rolfe's Tavern that he would close him up after being refused a beer. According to proprietor Jack Rolfe, Mesko came in near closing time and asked for a beer -- even though he had no money. Mesko got the beer, but when he asked for a re-fill, was refused. Mesko said: "if the police don't close you up, I will.....I'm going right through your front window." He did. He went to his home, go the truck, and returned. Taking careful aim, he backed his one-ton vehicle through the front window of the tavern.

I had been building wood boats prior to this, this was my first attempt at a wood bodied car. 47 Ford Sportsman. It was shown at Amelia Island the year after it was done. The owner passed a few years later and his wife auctioned the car to a man from the San Francisco area. I have been in contact with the new owner a couple times, but not recently. Not sure where the car is today.
This year at Pebble Beach, the cars of the 1934 Chicago's World Fair will be on display in a special class. The first time in history they will be all in one spot. Below is an article on the train at the fair. It was powered by a V-16 Cadillac engine. Enjoy!
The Chandler Royale Eight
This was touched on in the Hupp thread but I think it deserves its own conversation. I had never heard of this car before and given that @Chandler-Six estimates only a few cars may survive that helps explain it.
Chris can probably explain better but prior to acquisition by Hupp in Chandler had begun development of an inline eight cylinder engine. This resulted in the production of the Royale Eight in 1928. @Hupp31 theorizes that this is the basis for the later Model H and U Hupmobile engines.
1908 Ford Model S.
Repaired the original Heinze key switch and replaced the missing key.
Greased the chassis and transmission.
These use a two-speed, epicyclic transmission similar to the Model T except that it doesn't share the oil system with the engine.
The transmission is open and every so often, you remove the plugs and pump some grease in.
The gears then sling the grease all over the undercarriage and the road.

Maybe I’m weird, but I love polishing nitrocellulose lacquer. Nothing responds better to a little bit of elbow grease. The only trouble is that the shine doesn’t last long. The door panel on the right shows how much oxidation was there after just eight months and the cowl panel on the left is after cleaner wax.
