There's a quiet fight in Washington that could decide whether the shop down the street can still fix your car.

It came up again this week when Ford CEO Jim Farley was asked point-blank about people repairing their own vehicles. His answer leaned on safety, and the example he reached for was the Bronco. Which is a strange hill to pick, since a Bronco is about the simplest modern Ford you can buy. Unbolt the doors, pull the top. Caveman-easy.

But the Bronco isn't really the point, and neither is your driveway. Modern cars run on data. Their computers hold the information a mechanic needs to diagnose them, and automakers want to keep that data locked behind their own doors. If they win, the independent shop that's kept your family's cars running for 20 years gets shut out. So does the aftermarket that keeps a 15-year-old car alive after the manufacturer stops caring.

The mechanism is a bill called the REPAIR Act, currently tucked into the federal highway bill. Language protecting access to vehicle data was recently stripped out, and small-business groups are pushing to get it back in.
If you own the car, you should get a say in who fixes it. Look up the REPAIR Act, and if it matters to you, tell your representative.

More 1911 Model T progress.
Mocked up the pedals from the non-starter transmission cover in the new cover. Even though "They're all the same" some adjusting and massaging was necessary to make everything work smoothly.
This transmission has easy-adjust band adjusters installed. These allow the bands to be adjusted from the outside without needing to remove the service cover. This will be a big help during break-in.
Seals, o-rings and roll pins installed, cotter pins installed and the transmission cover is ready to install.
Gaskets and felt seal are on and ready for final assembly.

Every week it seems like there's a new EV brand/manufacturer. Here's a new take: Amble One. Street legal open Air EV for short trips. Kind of a cool concept. It'll be interesting to see if this actually comes to fruition and gets adoption.

Two new arrivals today.
The Comet needs it's carb cleaned and a good tune-up. I can't believe the lady drove it all the way here, considering how it runs.
The Chevy truck was flat-towed here by a farmer. The local dealership doesn't want to / can't work on this stuff. When I got it to fire, it would only run on half the cylinders. Looks like one side of the carburetor is gummed up badly.
Part of being able to fix anything is having to fix anything. they bring you.

Well one of my bucket list cars was posted to the Marketplace with an ask of 11k.  Thank god shipping from Texas makes it an even worse idea that if it was next door.

Have always loved the Jaguar MKIV saloons and the 3.5 stick with LHD is the one to have.   This one has a stuck engine and is largely original with needs.   In other words a bottomless pit.   I still Love it!

Looks like a few more ultra rare Hupmobiles are up for sale. The 1932 front wheel drive prototype, the only Skylark convertible, and a very early Skylark sedan. I’m not sure if and where any of the listings are up yet but I’m sure they’ll turn up soon.

1923 Peerless Model "66" Touring Phaeton

1923 Peerless Model "66" Touring Phaeton Earlier this month, there was a nice-looking '23 Peerless for sale. It is blue with a 332 Cu. In. V-8 engine. It sold at the Bonhams National Auto Museum Auction June 13th, 2026 in Reno for $31,360. There were 120 cars auctioned off -- most from the dwindling Bill Harrah Collection -- but some from the Minden Automotive Collection in Minden, NV. This car came from the Minden Collection and is pictured in the notable Peerless resource, the circa-1973 Automobile Quarterly VOL 11, NO 1....32-pg chapter on Peerless by Maurice Hendry. New owner? One of us?

I've corresponded with the late Ted Bacon, founder of the Minden Collection. He was friends with Bill Harrah before Bill ever collected his first old car, and got him interested in the antique car hobby when Ted rolled up to the post office in some ancient auto & Bill asked about it.

Like one Pierce-Arrow I saw photos of, the Waltham clock operates under a Tesla patent from December, 1916. The serial number plate is so faded all I can read is "66 F 16". It looks to be in great condition.

I just got back from a 10-day road trip, mostly w/o wifi or laptop access, and wasn't able to get on the Peerless Society site til now. One message did say it was being worked on. In the 19th century, there is no internet, which is where I was part of the time...the remainder at Glacier National Park. I managed to beam A.J. a pic of me at the 1st locale, Fort Union Trading Post Nat'l Historic Site (a recreated fur trading post near Williston, ND built in 1828). Maybe that photo will appear somewhere on here...though not related to antique cars.

Sent the 1976 MGB back to it's owner today.
There's still lots of little things to be sorted but he needs to drive it for a while before tackling all of that.
He's going to have it in the local Canada Day parade as well.
