A masterpiece of engineering and design: André Dubonnet’s 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C “Tulipwood” Torpedo, crafted by Nieuport-Astra. Built with aircraft technology and dressed in riveted mahogany, it remains one of the most innovative coachbuilt cars in history. #automotivehistory
The Excalibur was the brainchild of Brooks Stevens and was part of a "classic" revival of cars in the 1960s. Styling was modeled on the early 1930s Mercedes SSK. Underpinning was Chevy. There were a few iterations but the best was the earliest pictured here. These were factory built and tested cars, not some kit car. The video link below is a scene from "In Like Flint" where secret agent Derek Flint played by James Colburn pulls up to his private jet in an Excalibur. The music, setting and Colburn's wardrobe scream the 1960s.
Behold the Comet. Originally built as a movie prop for "Thumderball" in 1936, it also made an appearance in the series Jack Armstrong in 1947. Built on a 1929 Cord L29 chassis. It was eventually cut up and restored back to a Cord L29 Convertible coupe.
