The 1976 Eldorado was supposed to be the "Last of the Convertibles" and was the first instant collectible car I can remember. Prices were going for double retail and for the next 10 years these cars commanded a huge premium until Detroit started building convertibles again. The next instant collectible I remember was the 78 Corvette pace car. 90% of the instant collectible cars would end up losing their value. The one exception being the Ford GT.
