Ford is investing nearly $2 billion to transform its Louisville Assembly Plant, its first major overhaul in 70 years, into a hub for electric vehicle production starting with a midsize four-door electric pickup truck in 2027. Dubbed a new “Model T moment” by CEO Jim Farley, the project introduces a modular “assembly tree” system that will cut parts by 20 percent, fasteners by 25 percent, workstations by 40 percent, and assembly time by 15 percent. Part of a larger $5 billion EV push across Kentucky and Michigan, the move aims to make EVs more affordable and profitable while securing about 4,000 jobs.
