Chrysler Turbine Car passing during the 2022 Pebble Beach Tour. Chrysler built 55 Turbine Cars between 1963 and 1964. The program aimed to explore turbine engines as an alternative to traditional piston engines.   50 cars were loaned to the public for real-world testing from 1963 to 1966, covering over 1 million miles. Users praised the smooth ride but noted issues like high exhaust temperatures and fuel economy.  Ultimately,  the turbine engine was expensive to produce, less fuel-efficient, and faced issues with emissions and heat management.
