Not seeing much vintage bike love on here lately, so here’s a killer one — a 1912 Indian board track racer. Just look at it. Straight-up mechanical art.
These things raced on steep wooden ovals (yeah, actual planks), no brakes, no guardrails, and no real plan if things went wrong. To slow down, you hit a little kill switch on the bars. Oil system? Total loss — it just sprayed everywhere. Track, bike, rider… soaked.
And the helmets? Basically wool caps.
It was loud, fast, and totally nuts. A lot of guys didn’t make it out alive. But damn if it isn’t beautiful.
