Our poor families……

C.W. McCall is more famous for "Convey". Interestingly that song was produced by a fellow collector who had a recording studio in Tusla in the 1970s Don Sears. I saw him at Pebble in August. I think he is around 86 now. Avid Packard collector who has had every big car imaginable.

That brings back memories! The CB radio era lasted about 4 years. Everybody go one and the truckers all got pissed about it.

CB radio = redneck internet

You guys are too young, but it was quite the thing for a few years in the 70s. Played hockey with a kid whose dad drove a huge Chrysler station wagon and he put a CB in it. He would talk gibberish into on our way to hockey practice. My dad never cared and did not get one.

I’ve got to ask, do any of us know anyone who actively is still using a CB radio? Is that a thing anymore?

John, I don't personally know anybody but I think they are still used by truckers and off roaders and your occasional prepper. Still a thing but not what it was 40 years ago.

Brings back 2 memories
1st our entire 7th & 8th grade class used CBs like kids online today. It was one big party line but fizzled by High School.
Second - around age 14 I was scouting old cars at a closed service station one Sunday with a Chevy coupe towering over a sea of modern cars on a side lot. Waded in and heard the sound of a big chain being dragged and a huge German Shepherd jumped up on a car hood to look me in the eye. Didn't matter that he couldn't speak - his gaze said boy, GTF out of here. Compliance!!

Local scrap dealer that I used had three BIG English mastiffs in a chain link run.
I love big dogs, we have three. I'm not scared of many dogs but the way these three barked at anyone who walked by told me to not even bother trying to make friends.
There was always something about a "junk yard" dog that was terrifying. I think they were drinking anti-freeze or something. Friend adopted one and it would be fine for 95% of the time until something set him off. You couldn't trust him.

My buddy adopted a puppy from the junkyard and raised it from the time it was small. German Shepard mix of some sort. At lunch I would go over and walk the dog. Would always bring him a treat. He was great right up until the day he wasn't and I walked in and startled him and he lunged at me. Never walked him again although he always seemed glad to see me. Felt bad but he was not to be trusted. Probably something in his junk yard gene pool breeding.

I’d like to know where people are finding these protective German Shepherds because this was the one that we had. 🤦♂️

Agreed. I had German Shephards as a kid, mine were cuddly idiots but protective of me.
Wife unit and I had Bernese Mountain dogs until a little while ago. They're animated teddy bears, probably the best dog you could have if you have kids.
Now we have a Newfoundland, a Maremma and a Great Dane. The Newfie is a goofball, the Maremma is afraid of getting wet (livestock guardian dog, right) and my Great Dane has separation anxiety.
I'm more afraid of purse dogs than I am of large breeds.

Typically small dogs are more apt to bite than big dogs. Danes have a great reputation except for the one that my Uncle Ted had that would literally kill you if you got near his pen. He was huge too.

My paint sales rep rides around all day with her Cane Corso in the car, so I got to see him today. Still growing but he’s a big marshmallow.

My daughter adopted a Great Pyrenees. She lived alone and it definitely made her feel safer. She would sleep on top of me on the couch when I would visit. Sweetest dog ever unless another dog or child went near my daughter. She was able find a home for her where that wasn't an issue. When she got going she was terrifying.

Friends of mine growing up always had Great Pyrenees. Most of them were very mellow because they had most of their guardian dog instinct bred out of them. They had one that acted like a real one and was nice with people but would think nothing of going out and fighting a bear in the yard.

Very protective dogs. Problem is discerning a real threat from a 3 year old kid. They are BIG dogs too.

Don Sears @sidemounts created a RS account. Would be great if Don told us the C.W. McCall backstory!
I would love to hear the story. I remember the song Convey clearly. Plus there was a movie.
