1931 DUESENBERG J-464
When I registered myself at Rumbleseat I knew I had to be one of the newest Duesenberg owners so I picked the name "Duesy" out of excitement for finally joining the "club." Even though there were body builders who built multiple similarly styled cars all Duesenbergs were largely custom cars. This car has some very unique features and has great paperwork from the original owner to prove their provenance. We know that J-464 was born in 1931 with a two door Rollston Convertible Victoria body when it was purchased by Phillip Wrigley. Mr. Wrigley owned several Duesenbergs but this one was photographed relatively often so we have good pictorial history. The change came because after driving the car for a bit Mr. Wrigley thought the doors were too long. We know this because he wrote a letter explaining that they stuck out too far in traffic when he parked the car at the Wrigley building. By 1934 he sent the car to Bohman & Schwartz having made the decision to restyle the car into a four door. Thus parts of J-464 are Rollston and parts are Bohman & Schwartz. As part of that restyling process they used a very unique center piano hinge arrangement. Bohman & Schwartz also added "pants" to the front fenders which was one of their trademarks. I don't have a picture of the original look so if anyone has a picture of the car between 1931 and 1933 I would appreciate it so I can add it to the car's history. I am hoping to start showing the car soon.
