Diesel is $3.00 per liter in some parts of Canada right now.

Yeah, because everybody needs 1500 lb/ft of torque to drive to the grocery store in their 2500 pickup. There are medium duty wreckers that can haul two or three cars with less engine than that.

That truck gets something like 23 miles to the gallon when its not towing. @TomLaferriere what does it get when you have a loaded trailer?
My 3.5 Eco Boost F150 is consistently 15 miles to the gallon. The last truck was identical. That with an empty bed.

My Silverado with the 6.2 and the max tow package averages around 12L per 100km in town. That goes to 18L per 100km with a trailer on. I have no idea what that translates to in freedom units.
I tow with cruise control on and set to about 5kmh over the speed limit. It never slows down going up hill and down hill it shuts the fuel off completely when you manually shift the transmission for engine braking.

So 19.5 mpg empty and 13 mpg loaded. Not bad. That’s about what I got with the U-Haul Silverado I used to pick up my car from New Hampshire. 200 miles up with empty trailer and 200 miles back loaded, it averaged over 15 mpg. No idea which engine.

Wonder if a Cybertruck would haul that trailer?

I saw a real-world video of a guy in the northeast attempting to trailer his small boat with a Cybertruck. When doing so the range dropped by 30% and he was not pleased. When the range dropped it wasn't obvious at the beginning and occurred steadily throughout the trip forcing him eventually to make alternate arrangements to find charging closer-in (and clearly lengthening his round-trip day outing. I don't know if that's a "one-off" or typical. I'm not an e-car guy so I have no dog in this show.

Towing is gonna crush the range. CyberTruck is generally good for 300 to 340 miles, but towing will significantly impact that (same as a gas or diesel but maybe worse).

I assume a rhetorical question by @TomLaferriere, but forget diesel, add in the cost of the heavy duty truck, the trailer, tires and insurance. We have made it to the point where local shows make the most sense or you pay a shipper or rent what you need for that single time a year longer haul.

There is much truth to this post. I have an open trailer that I can tow with my 1/2 ton truck. But I use it more for moving cars locally and have never ventured far with it.

Truck and trailer 100K, diesel, maintenance and repair on that truck and trailer as well as insurance, plus time of an experienced driver and car transporter. Whats that worth per mile?

I've thought about getting an open trailer. You can pull it locally with a 1/2 ton . Clearly not for cross-country or long distance shipping. But 75% of my shipping issues are within 50 miles. Fortunately I have a good fiend with a truck and trailer.
