My wife absolutely loves those things and when she sees the modern version she rants and raves about how they messed up. I agree with her.

North Fork Long Island is a beach community? A vintage Wagoneer or Cherokee has the same social pedigree as a 150k Range Rover.

I owned the pickup version for quite a while. A 1967 Jeep Gladiator. One of the best trucks I ever had. Except for how badly they rust. Fun ADHD fact: Brooks Stevens designed those trucks. He was the fellow who made "planned obsolescence" popular in the auto industry but his own design ran from 1963 to 1991.

Thanks Shawn! I did not know that.

He's also responsible for the Studebaker Wagonaire.

This is what I would like to find.

The 4 liter six from AMC was a great engine and those cherokees would last if it didn't rust out around you.

Every time my dad sees how much those Wagoneers are going for these days, he just laughs. He had one with the Buick 350 that was apparently quite the POS. Of course, he replaced it with a late 70’s Subaru. Talk about frying pan into the fire.

My Gladiator had the Buick 350. One of the best truck engines I ever had. That little thing would pull far more than it should.

40 years ago that was the vehicle of choice in Hyannis when getting in line for the ferry to either Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.

Before I went on a Tacoma kick I bought my oldest a 2010 Jeep Liberty with maybe 80k miles on it. Made it through HS, College and then the first couple years out of school before it basically fell apart. I think we got it to around 150k miles. I never really had any big issues with it. But in the end it went to the junk yard it had so many problems.
