2028 Jaguar Type 01 EV

Not Tesla, but Jaguar is trying to dig itself out of a ditch. Do you guys know about this?

The full production exterior is scheduled to be revealed in New York on 6 October 2026. So maybe not vaporware.

Here are the specs. Similar to the discontinued Model S Tesla.

Dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, not shared with combustion or hybrid cars

800–850 V architecture

~120 kWh battery

Tri-motor all-wheel drive (one motor front, two rear)

More than 986 hp / 1,000 PS and 1,300 Nm (959 lb-ft)

0–60 mph targeted under 3 seconds

Claimed range around 400 miles EPA / 430+ miles or up to ~770 km WLTP

Peak DC charging up to 350 kW (roughly 200 miles / 321 km in 15 minutes)

Air suspension with active dampers and rear-wheel steering are expected.

Nice concept and good metrics if they are real. But how good is the software gonna be? And how much do you trust a brand new car from a company not experienced in EVs?

I try to find positive things but the high belt lines and (probably) awful visibility kill it for me. It's ugly. Full stop.
Remember when Jaguar built beautiful cars?

I have a feeling the actual car will have a bigger greenhouse. Although the thing with EVs is they have cameras everywhere so the sight lines from the drivers seat are not as important.

I dont' hate the looks. They aimed for more of the caddy look than the traditional EV streamlined look. But I agree with @BakerFan about buying an EV from Jag.

@alsancle I don't disagree but my 2019 Silverado has massive A-pillars. They're fat enough that I've lost a small car approaching me in their blind spot when I was turning onto the highway.
I hate the terrible visibility in new vehicles but I understand why we need proper crash protection as well.

Honestly, it is hard for me to consider an EV that is not one of the American big 3 (Tesla, RIvian, Lucid) or put out by a major manufacturer like BMW or Mercedes. Jaguar had a good brand a long time ago but I would worry about the company just disappearing after I bought the car.

I kinda feel the same but am really a Tesla bobo because I know they are not going out of business. But love the looks of the Lucid too. Still hard to not buy Tesla if you are buying an EV.
