Jack Daniel's x McLaren Tennessee Whiskey

Found this bottle at my local Costco. Almost bought it. Very cool packaging. Found this recipe for a cocktail on the Jack Daniel's and McLaren website linked below. Might have to give this a try over the weekend.

LAST LAP LEMONADE:

1 ½ oz | 45 ml Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey
¾ oz | 25 ml Lemon Juice
1 oz | 15 ml Mandarin Liqueur
1 oz | 15ml Simple Syrup
2 Dashes Bitters
1 oz | 15ml Ginger Beer

Shake first five ingredients. Strain over ice into Collins glass. Top with Ginger Beer. Stir. Garnish with mint sprig.

Wow. So what would a normal bottle of Jack Daniels go for?

· Sep 18

20 bucks. If I’m paying that much, it’d better be Pappy Van Winkle.

So 400 plus for the package?

· Sep 18

I'll pass on that!!!

Me too. Give me the Woodford Reserve on the shelf behind it any day.

Same, I’ll take it also and keep 429 in my wallet.

Whisky is down almost 50 percent since all the states went to legal weed. Alcohol across the boards is down huge, and it will only continue.

This is timely. Every fall Skinner/Bonhams auction has spirits out of their Marlborough, MA location. It actually starts today (online). Usually they have a bunch of Pappy, Old Forrester, George T. Stagg, Michter's, Blanton's, etc but this year they are heavy into Japanese for some reason. No Pappy is on offer. I should have bought when it was $1700/bottle. Now their 23 yr goes for over $3500. Otherwise I've found a great source for 4yr Willett bourbon for only $64./bottle. In this auction they have 6 year which will probably exceed $400./bottle so a good value. They have 24 yr also which I've never seen before. That will easily hit a few thousand.... but I agree, hard to drink money.

Wow. What a collection! Nikka 40 Years Old must be amazing. I'm hoping that whoever wins the auction actually enjoys these. Life is too short to collect whiskey and have it sit on a shelf. Seems like some people forget that these things are meant to be enjoyed with friends and family, and to celebrate life. As the saying goes: can't drink it when you're dead.

Lagavulin 16 and then we can talk.
Maybe a Bolivar No.2 in there too.

I'm a bit of a whiskey enthusiast. I like whiskeys of all variety. Single malt scotch, bourbon, rye whiskey, Irish, Canadian, and Japanese. There are fine whiskies being made right now throughout the world. But in all seriousness, Jack Daniel's has had quite the recent resurgence thanks to their new master distiller. This single barrel, barrel proof rye is unbelievable. And probably the best value in whiskey right now. Don't hesitate to try this. Absolutely spectacular.

I’ll have to give that a try. I like a good rye.
