Tossed the diff parts into the ultrasonic while I was working on customer stuff today.
I think I found a solution to needing an apprentice. Give it dirty parts and they come back clean! I can also verbally abuse it and not have to hear about it later..
Diff gears are in fantastic shape, shouldn't give any trouble.
Finding junior help can be tough. How far away is the nearest vocational school?

2 hours of driving a day is a lot although people do it.
That’s the never-ending struggle. You pretty much have to accept the fact that there will be a couple years where a young helper will drive you crazy on a daily basis. If they survive the two years, then you have a shot at turning them into something. I used to have very little patience for newbies but I’ve learned to cut them a bit more slack. I have a young kid working for me that six months in, I would have bet he wasn’t going to make it, but four years later he’s one of my best guys.
I may try to find a high school kid on summer break next year.
Get a kid while they still know everything.
I remember 16 year-old me in shop class. That kid was a smart assed little punk.

When I was seventeen I thought my boss was the biggest idiot I’d ever met. Now I’m the boss and I feel like I’m an idiot most of the time. So maybe I was right. 🤔
When you are young you don't know what you don't know. What is funny is kids that were dicks in HS end up being the nicest people as adults.
