Note the tanks are gone.

Wonder if the vintage test machine comes with it?

Norwich NY was home to 5 fortune 500 headquarters at one time. Then NY changed some tax laws and they all moved to Texas. Anyways, really nice town. We stopped there for the Bentley tour in May to visit the Northeast Classic Car museum. So you would be close to a lot of cool car stuff.

There was a guy on The HAMB a number of years ago who found a 1950s era Texaco metal gas station still in the crates.
I can't seem to find the thread but I think it ended up on his property somewhere.

The Henry Ford has a complete gas station inside.

Any chance you were thinking about the Greg Wyatt’s Vintage Corvettes Museum? I don't have a photo but they have a near-full-scale 1950s Texaco service-station replica inside.

I’m not sure how NY’s environmental regulations compare to those of CT but if they’re anything like it, a former gas station could be trouble. Or at least expensive to get through the red tape. Like buy a very nice full classic kind of expensive. Ask me how I know.

When they removed the tanks they needed to do a soil test which should be available. Unless the tanks were removed 50 years ago then you might have a problem. But your point remains a good one. And I'm sure that NY is every bit as bad as Conn & Masss.

This was my very first thought. But if we let reality enter our thought process there is little to talk about.

Exactly the situation I was up against. Tanks removed 50 years ago and no real records, supposedly there was an underground oil tank in the 60’s that was taken out and nobody knows when. Also an inground lift that they were bound and determined to find a leak from and didn’t. Drilled the property and shop floors to Swiss Cheese to test. 60 grand before I even knew whether it needed remediation. So I might be a bit sour. But then, if you’re doing a cash deal, you might slip by a lot of that mess.

@Royale835Sedan You’re absolutely right. I really need to stop thinking realistically. It’s kind of boring.

Most states now are very tough on this. The problem with the historic stations is that many times the tanks were pulled decades ago. So you are doing soil testing and you get the idea of where it goes from there.

No longer a gas station but converted to a home. Thought it was cool.

Color me intrigued as to the “ True Story of Jack Schitt” poster on the wall. Sounds like a good read.

· Sep 9

Okay, I looked up the poster on the wall of the garage so you don’t have to.

@Hupp31 have you seen the restored Mobile station just over the line in Millerton? Could be a NW CT preway gang destination..

· Sep 9

Not that I recall. But it’s been some time since I’ve gone through Millerton. Seems like I always end up going through Amenia when I go out that way. That would be a good tour out that way. If I’m remembering correctly, there’s a good driving route south from there that crosses back into CT in Kent.

Looks cool!

That is awesome!!!

@ShawnG Couldn't find the one you mentioned. But I always like this subject because it gets me thinking about man caves and garages. There was a metal one sitting in a scrap yard 10 years ago that a guy posted to the AACA. It had 1 service bay and was not very big. I can never find it now when I go back and look for it. But I found a different thread referring to an ebay auction in 2006 for a metal Texaco station to be disassembled and moved. This one sold and went to Georgia.

· Sep 9

3 full bays!!! It sold for 3500 dollars.

· Sep 9

Tom Gibson is/was an AACA forum member. Orrie knows him pretty well I think. Haven't seen him online in a while.

· Sep 9

3 bay metal is semi rare. Most of them were a very standard 2 bay/office/2 bath setup.

The guy who owns the station in Millerton has a fb page "Millerton Memories" - sounds like hr hosts a few car shows or cruise nights as well
