ACD Reunion & Festival (Sept 3-6, 2026)

Started in 1955  as a reunion for former ACD employees and cars.  Turned in to quite the extravaganza.

I have gone 4 times.  Once when I was about 10,  again 1990,  2000 and then again in 2010 when we brought my dad's Auburn Speedster.

The Kruse auction used to be as big as Barrett Jackson.  It was crazy.  That is gone and replaced with a new Kruse auction (Formerly World Wide).  There is the show on Saturday

Travis, the built 2 like that. Thankfully only 2. I think it looks ok on the sedan.

I don't hate it on the Beverly. It works better with the hardtop.

One of those Cord 810/812 convertible phaetons beset with side-mounts was owned by the fuel oil distributor in Bath, NY. His name escapes me now. He would drive it in local parades in the late 1960's/early 1970's. Even as a youth, I could hardly believe someone would be so aesthetically challenged to specify such a travesty.

This is my parents during the parade in 1970.

This is 2010 when my dad and I brought his Auburn.

This is my dad with a different speedster back in 1958 during the parade. He went every year from 57 to around 75. The whole family would drive to my grandmothers in Akron where the kids would get jettisoned and my parents would continue on to Auburn. They would come back on Saturday night and we would drive home on Sunday. Typically 1 day off for labor day and then school started on the Tuesday. 11 hour drive on Sunday was not fun knowing school was starting.

It’s so funny to think that car was barely over 20 years old then. Now we look at 20-year-old cars as lightly used daily drivers.

So true. I drove a 49 Plymouth in HS that my dad bought me because he didn't want me to kill myself. When he bought it for me I was in 8th grade and the 27 years old. It seemed ancient.

WWII was a big cut off. The Classic Car Club was formed in 1955 and they had cars that were only 14 years old in the club. Things changed a lot from before the war and after the war. So even though it was not a lot of years, the cars changed quite a bit.

AJ, Is the black and white photo of your dad's Auburn the same color (red) as the modern photo? I'm always curious how colors "read" on black and white film.

I made it there for the first time in since the Duesenberg Drag race in 2010.
It feels so amazing to spend 4 days surrounded by dedicated car people, totally immersed in Auburn/Cord/ Duesenberg culture and surrounded by these stunning and remarkable cars.
I brought my 1933 Auburn V12 Salon Speedster which has never been to the event before. I began down the path of certification by the ACD club, which verifies the authenticity of the car. They did a 2-hour inspection, documenting numbers from the engine tag, the engine stamping, the numbers stamped on the frame, the serial plate, the body number stamped into the floorboards, the numbers on the axles and transmission, and a bunch of top secret stuff that they look for on the frame to determine if it's a genuine speedster frame or not. It was really interesting and I learned a lot.
