I found a photo of this Rolls roadster. I love this thing. Whose bodywork was this? Any still around?

Travis, my guess is an early Springfield Ghost, say 1925 with Piccadilly Roadster Coachwork.

Looks like the passenger compartment is a bit cramped. I’ll use that as my excuse for not buying one. Glossing over the fact that it’s a couple zeroes north of my price range.

Prices have come down since that auction. You can get a nice Piccadilly for 250k I think. The Ghost society is very active and has a whole website of parts you can buy. They are very loyal to those cars. There is a prewar (WWI) post war split in the cas with the prewar ones bringing a lot more money. The top of the mountain for me is the London to Edinborough cars which are low slung and geared for speed.

Were they RHD even on the Springfield cars?

Springfield Ghost production started out as RHD and ended as LHD. I'll call it a 50/50 split but honestly don't remember. Phantom I production started in 1926 all LHD.
Easiest way to tell a PI from a Ghost is the exposed cantilevered rear springs.

Too bad the sidemounts break up the body line.
I wish Ed hadn't pointed it out on another forum but now I can't un-see it.
He's right, they look better when they sit lower.

Shawn, the sidemount discussion is interesting to me. As someone that grew up in the MB world where double rear spares doubled the price it was surprising to me when I was like 50 years old and I found out that there were many many guys lusting after sidemount cars.

I could suffer with the car in either configuration. I’m not sure if I’m in the minority or not, but I prefer the looks of an earlier Rolls vs the classic era cars. Maybe it’s the wire wheels because I’ve never been a fan of the wheel covers on the later cars.

Even this closed car that was about to be scrapped during WW2 looks good to me.
