Time moves on. Loved ZZ Top and in the late 70s and 80s they were THE band. The ZZ Top Eliminator was the hot rod I wanted. Rest in peace man.
That MTV video is seared in to my 20 year old brain.

Me too! Back from that 10 year window when MTV played music videos.

Christmas 1980 I got two eight track albums. First one was Led Zeppelin IV and the second one was Tres Hombres. I was 14 and did not know a lot about music. It was about 15 degrees outside and I went in the driveway and started up my mom's 74 Eldorado to use her 8 track player. I only had an AM clock radio next to my bed for music. I spent the next 90 minutes listening to both albums and thought to myself "Wow, you idiot! look at all this great music you have been missing". Little did I know I had one of the greatest albums of all time in Zeppelin IV and an iconic one in Tre Hombres. It has been down hill ever since.
Rest in peace Frank! You guys made some great music.
Ironic last name, huh? Beard… the only band member without an actual beard. 😂
What a fantastic band, and what an excellent drummer and musician. And this comes after the passing of bassist Dusty Hill in 2021. Sad.
ZZ Top’s connection to automotive culture was epic. Hot rods, custom cars, motorcycles, chrome, pinstriping, and that American car culture aesthetic were basically baked into their identity as a band.
The Eliminator alone deserves its own post. Check out surviving member Billy Gibbons' collection:

Don't forget Cadzzilla. That thing is badass.

Bummer, saw them visiting a buddy back in 1981 (?) in Pittsburg PA. Was a big fan but unfortunate remember nothing about that night. Funny so many bands from the 60s are still around but guys from the 70 and 80s are passing away.
Agreed. Bummer.
