The Corvette Chevrolet Didn’t Want You to Buy

The 1969 Corvette L88 was barely disguised race car—and Chevrolet went out of its way to make sure customers knew it.

427 cubic inches. Big-block fury. M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed. No air conditioning. No radio. And a warning that you’d better feed it racing fuel.

Only 116 were ordered in 1969.

Petrolicious takes us inside one of these extraordinary Corvettes and the story behind the most hardcore C3 ever built.

Watch it and then tell us: Is the L88 the greatest Corvette ever?

This one is 1 of like 17 automatics. It only was bid to 270 at Mecum in January. Usually these bring double or more. Maybe the automatic? Obviously with a Corvette paperwork is critical as well as owner history along with the condition of the car.

They only made 20 in 67 and this one brought 2.7 million!!!!!!!

Have I said I’m a fan of Petrolicious video productions????…….

Fun to think about having some discretionary income in those years and looking at an L88, Cobra 427, or Ferrari 365…….. and having to make a choice……. Radically different concepts with different outcomes…. But all good.

If any of you were struggling with that choice years ago…… jump in and tell us how awful it was and what you ended up getting….😉
