The 1990s Jeep Cherokee was an iconic design. They did great things with a box. The newer Jeeps are embarrasing.

When I was 6 years old, I got a broken nose courtesy of the dash on one of those Cherokees. My mom was driving, hit a patch of ice, and wrapped the front end right around a massive pine tree. The Jeep lost that battle.

When I was 10 my mom was driving a her69 Eldorado, slammed the brakes on (cause she was probably following too close) and I slammed my head off the windshield and put my elbow through the dash pad above the glove box. No harm to the windshield and my dad put a antique car sticker over the hole in the dash.
I still made it to hockey practice that night.

I wasn’t quite that lucky. The broken nose made my forehead swell up so I looked like a Klingon for a while. I wish we had photos of that car after the crash because I’ve never seen a car buckle up in quite the same way. I remember the front of the car having a perfect U shape and the roof and rockers had an upward buckle at the B-pillars. I guess that’s one good reason for them to not make them any more.

Was your mom ok?

Yes she was fine but she grabbed the steering wheel so hard that the force actually reversed the dish on the wheel. The rim was folded right down past the turn signal stalk. Never seen that happen again either.

Funny how people survived ok without airbags back in the day. Maybe sometimes they didn't but everybody has stories like these about accidents that should have really hurt someone and they walked away. Glad nobody was really hurt in these two examples.
