There still are some 1/4 strips, but probably 25% as many as there were in 1968. Have a friend who pours all his spare money into a drag truck that he has fabricated from scratch. I like the super stocks and I still wouldn't mind a 40-42 Willys Gasser.

Those were the days! I only caught the tail end of the glory days as a spectator but it was a cultural phenomenon across the US. We were still having the occasional street race in the late 70s mimicking American Graffiti but it was cooling off by then.
"Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY! At US 30 Dragstrip, Gary, Indiana." The Chicago radio stations blared regarding the coming weekend. Heck, I left my 1965 high school graduation ceremony with diploma in hand and buddies and I headed directly to "Thirty". Great times.
I remember the same sort of commercial in the late 70s.
Closest I ever came to drag racing was this car. I bought my REO instead which was probably more in my wheelhouse.

Fortunately somebody else bought it. Saw it for sale couple years later exactly the same. Not sur if it was ever finished. It had real history in the 1960s but the colors and graphics were nothing special.
