Vintage Speed Equipment Anyone?

I'm mostly a factory guy but I do appreciate vintage speed equipment. Stuff period appropriate for the car. Here is my 40-42 Packard Super Eight intake with carbs that was removed from a car it was installed on in th 1950s. I didn't need it or want it but it was supposed to have the matching Edmunds head and a friend went to some work getting it to me. Without the head I wasn't the interested but felt obligated to buy it at that point. Wasn't exactly free either. But it look nice on a shelf.

Here is the exact same setup that has been on my dad's car since the 1950s. He has the Edmunds head. Also a high lift cam that he did not re-install when he did the engine in the 90s.

30 years ago I had an Oberhausen electric supercharger that went on a small block chevy. My friend bugged and bugged me for it and I eventually let him have it for what I thought was a good money. Looking for a picture to post I find this one for 4500 and think I made a bad mistake.

I'm out of my traditional hot rod phase but I looked for one of those Oberhausen blowers for years. You never see them available.

I have never seen one these before. Does the electric motor provide enough boost? How is it operated?

My memory was that the biggest problem is that the starter motors they were using were not designed to run for long periods. So it needed to be setup on a switch and used sparingly. I think they migrated to belts, then propellants like Turbonique. In fact I think they may have become Turbonique or were bought by them. Those guys probably deserve their own topic.

Allegedly boosts could reach 15psi but take that with a grain of salt. I have never seen one actually installed and running on a car.

Hard to believe that would actually boost power. Or if it did you would burn out the starter motor in short order.

This is basically the Fenton dual carb setup I had on my 49 Plymouth in HS (while I worked on my GTO). My dad bought it for me when I was 12 thinking it would keep me from killing myself. I killed myself working jobs to pay for a cooler car.
