Ice Cream Social
Yesterday, we had the National Packard Club stop by an ice cream social. A good time for all.

I was there with my son in law. Great turn out and Tom and crew did a great job of getting everything cleanup and ready for visitors. Here are the cars parked out in front.

There were a lot of cool Packards that showed up but the coolest one to me was Frank Wemple's 34 3 window Super Eight. I love these more than the coupe roadster and there are much fewer.
Love the low roofline.

34 is the only year where Packard used that low roofline on the coupe.

More cars.

Original Vanderbilt Packard sitting in the back of the building.

Is this an 8 or a 12 cylinder car?

I believe a standard eight which is interesting given the custom body and the original owner.

Really nice 34 Super Eight Club Sedan.

I always liked these business coupes. Would have loved this in HS instead of my 2 door sedan.

It looks like that was a fun event. I’ve enjoyed seeing some of the great offerings you’ve had over the years Tom and hope our paths cross at some point. AJ, thanks for the photos. I always enjoy seeing the different facilities people have in the hobby. We are retiring and leaving Illinois, and I have the problem/opportunity to establish a new home for my hobby (cars and memorabilia). I always get great ideas looking at what other people have done.

Last of my photos.

A friend sent this from the show. On my list of ultimate pre-war packards. A 745 with Derham body. If you are from New England and old enough, you’ll remember this as Shelly Vincent’s car.

That is a great car, I’ve never seen it before. Has it spent its life on the East Coast?

Believe it is still in the North East somewhere but I don't know for sure.

Same body on an SV16 Stutz. Also put on Lincoln, Duesenberg and 845 Packard. I have a drawing of it on a J8-90 Stearns Knight chassis but none were built to my knowledge.

Ok, so please educate me.
As you said, it's the same body but are they similar enough that the body could be taken from one make and installed on another or did they just appear the same but were actually very different underneath?

Typically the wheelbases needed to be the same for the bodies to work without too much modification. So in the case of the Stutz and the Packard 745 they are both 145" wheelbases. The bodies would be identical but the cowls would need to be different to accommodate the factory hoods of the manufacturer. Also, the chassis rails would need to accommodate the different chassis so slightly different. These were expensive and labor was cheap so making slightly different variations of the same thing was not a big deal.

Thank you!

845 Packard with double rear mount. Same body though. Hood is shorter than the 745 by 5".
