When I was a kid I had little interest in the VW Beetle. Then my two uncles each got one and souped them up with crazy early 70s paint jobs. Have liked them ever since. Out to breakfast this morning in western Michigan and came out of the restaurant and spotted these two. Oval window blue car is mid 50s? Beige car is later. Can anybody guess more accurate years?

Always wanted a beetle or a karmann ghia. Looking at the rear windows they may be later 50s or early 60s. Blue car has a smaller rear window so it is earlier than the beige car.

Thanks. My Uncle was a trick painter and could do crazy things with an airbrush. His car looked like this one while my other uncles car was more sedate but purple.

My aunt owned a late-'60s model when I was a kid. It was baby blue. Over the years, the engines gradually became more powerful. Even unmodified, the ones built after 1965/66 had noticeably more power, so you were much less likely to get squashed when merging into traffic.

Can you post a zoom of the door handles? That will determine the year.

Here is the beige car.

Black car is a 57 and the silver car is a 55.
