I just found this photo of a 1946 Fageol twin engine racer. I’m a big fan of blower whine, but sitting right on top of them? The noise had to be shocking.

I believe this is the same car.

WHAT?

@SteveMackCT That would be the appropriate reaction. 😀

@Hupp31 insert laugh emogee here...

@SteveMackCT I know. We need that emoji built in!!!!!

Very cool. I'd always associated Fageol with trucks.

It sounds like he built multiple cars. One had twin Offenhauser engines and one had twin 1500cc Miller engines.

My personal favorite twin engine exercise was the Twini. I’d like to build one some day. Modern technology should help in cooling the rear engine, getting engines synced properly, and making the handling so that death was not quite so imminent.

"In 1952, Lou Fageol bought an auto dealership in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Porsches soon caught his fancy. Looking the cars over, he saw an opportunity to replicate his 1946 Indy racer. They already had an engine in the rear, he though. His first effort made use of a 1952 356 Coupe in which he installed a complete Porsche engine and transmission in the front, ahead of the front wheels. The front transaxle’s ring gear and pinion were modified to give four forward speeds."

Looks like he was up to some very cool twin engine stuff.
Crazy!

Here is one of the Porsches at Westover AF Base in 1954.

@Hupp31 That is INSANE. I love it.

There’s a good write-up on Fageol here. He was successful in power boat racing as well. https://velocetoday.com/the-twin-engine-life-of-lou-fageol/

When I think of Fageol I think of the advertisements in Hemmings for years by Robert Demar's looking for a partner to restore the Supersonic with.

@alsancle The Supersonic is awesome. I had never heard of any of these cars until today.

@Hupp31
I'm loving the posts from everyone on Rumbleseat, there's so much cool stuff to look at and learn about.
I really hope this platform takes off.

@ShawnG Agreed.
