This was a first. Customer tells me they hit a pothole a week ago. That’s right, a WEEK ago.

We don't see that out here in the West!

@Chandler-Six Hyundais have a major problem with suspension cradles and control arms anywhere that uses salt. In fact, my wife’s old car met its end that way when a rear control arm let go. But she was astute enough not to drive it for a well afterward.

Ouch. What year is that car?

@alsancle It’s only 12 years old. Which is like 70 in New England years.
Sometimes the rust prevention just isn't there when you have a salt state. What did the frame recall on the Tacomas end up costing Toyota?

@rjones For what they charge for Tacomas, I figure that they just figure in the cost of a replacement frame into the purchase price.

@Hupp31 I bought 3 used Tacomas for the kids. 2 had frame replacements which included new springs and suspension. One did not. I was tricked by the truck that did not because it was 1 owner and only about 46k miles. A real cream puff. But the frame was showing signs that I i saw but ignored. 4 years later it failed inspection and got sold off to Africa.

@alsancle That’s a struggle I know all too well. I’ve been a Nissan truck guy for over 25 years. I’ve gone through three Hardbody pickups and now the frame on my 2012 Frontier is starting to get well ventilated. The rust on the Nissans has always been just a little slower than Toyotas so they avoided all of the recall nonsense. But these days, the newer GM truck frames are by far the biggest rot-boxes out there.

@Hupp31 Wait until I show you pictures of my F150 when I got it in Sept and what i tlooks like now. I'm a sucker for a 1 owner low mileage car fax.

@alsancle You wouldn’t feel bad about it if you saw the 2014 Silverado that one of my techs has. He’s in the process of replacing the frame, bedsides, and rockers. Better him than me, I would have pushed the POS over a cliff first. It’s kind of pathetic that they can’t make them last any longer than that. You can find surface rust on GM frames when they’re a year old.

WTF!!!

@Royale835Sedan That was my exact response when I looked under the car.
