I had been building wood boats prior to this, this was my first attempt at a wood bodied car. 47 Ford Sportsman. It was shown at Amelia Island the year after it was done. The owner passed a few years later and his wife auctioned the car to a man from the San Francisco area. I have been in contact with the new owner a couple times, but not recently. Not sure where the car is today.

Beautiful! I'm old enough to remember when these cars brought crazy money.

Gorgeous work! These are the "sporty" woodies and the did bring a bunch of money at one point. I'm sure they are still expensive.

This car sold in 2011 for $285,000. A Mercury Sportsman, the rare of the rare, went for 370. The guy I built this one for paid $110K for the unrestored original. If this car were auctioned today that's probably about what it would bring.

@NewOldWood 15 to 20 years ago is about right. They brought crazy money!
They are very cool. Just not sure about 370k for a Sportsman.

@alsancle 370K for a Mercury, never saw a Ford go that high. About that time a 42 Chrysler Barrelback I built went to auction, bid up to 670K and did not meet the reserve. After the auction the buyer offered 750K for the car, owner still wouldn't sell. That same car would be lucky to get 250K at auction today.

@NewOldWood Holy mackeral!!! These things really bring that kind of money???
Beautiful!

Exceptional job!

Mecum is selling this at Indy. I like the hartops.
