Were any Chandler designs used following the Hupp purchase?
There are similarities in engine size and appearance between the late Chandler eight engines and the new for 1930 365ci eight used by Hupmobile in their big model H and U. This has prompted some to speculate that Hupp may have piggybacked off of the prior work done by Chandler on the Royal 85 engine to develop this new engine. There are problems with the theory. There are a few details that are consistent with prior Hupmobile designs. Do any drawings or exploded diagrams of the Royal 85 engine exist that could be compared to see if there are any similarities in engine architecture? Did the Chandler eights use 5 or 9 main bearings?
