First two years are my favorites for the continental. However, my dad was very negative on their powerplant saying he would get stuck behind them on tours. Not sure how fair that is. I have never driven one. But a big car with 292 cubic inch engine seems like it might struggle on hills. But a gorgeous design.
This is the protoytpe.

@alsancle
The V12 is smooth and quiet. Powerful it is not.
Probably equal output to the Ford V8 but more refined. That's just my butt dynamometer talking.
I'll keep my opinions of the flathead ford to myself.

@ShawnG How does the saying go? If you can't say something good then... I always thought the design was the V8 plus 4 cylinders tacked on the end. Maybe over simplifications?
Gorgeous car!

These are pretty cars, at least the early ones and almost bought one in my younger days. They do have a reputation for not being over powering.

These are great cars but you need to keep your expectations in check. When you hear "V12" visions of Packard and Pierce Arrow come to mind. Those engines were 70% bigger and the cars were only 40% bigger.
