California is cracking down on the so-called Montana loophole used to register Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, and other high-end cars out of state to avoid taxes. According to the L.A. Times, investigators have tied 2,500 suspicious sales to 500 dealers since 2023. Worth a read if you follow the collector car world, compliance, or exotic-car ownership.

The law is clear on this and people using Montana to register their RVs from a high tax state need to store the RV out of state. Each state has different rules but you need to be careful.
