Long lost Packard with Bohman and Schwarttz updated Murphy sedan body discovered. A car pictured in the Fred Roe book and thought to be a Duesenberg (actually a 1931 Packard) has been discovered in an estate and will be saved. Check out the pictures.

The car is a 1929 6 series Packard with an original Murphy body that was modified by B&S back in the mid 30's. Original photos and drawings for Murphy and B&S still exist. The car spent 5 decades in the town of Avalon on Catilina Island. Neat car.........just add cash. Hope someone takes on the project.

@Edinmass Avalon is the only incorporated town on Catalina Island. Famous for a Duesenberg dropping off the pier among other things. It is not very big.

@Edinmass Ed, it is a 745. Guy on site measured wheelbase and the dash says 7 series. The engine turn is a B&S customization. Very cool!

@alsancle
great discovery and Avalon looks like my kind of town.

@JohnBloom John, most people are unware there are islands of the coast of southern California. They are very arid and I think Catalina is the only one that is really populated.

Great discovery! I like the updated B&S look of this car. Not one of the uglier ones.

Very interesting. Looks like a late 30s car with an early 30s chassis.

The hood length visually is great. Having the cowl subordinate to the hood panels with no visual break is a nice design. It reminds me of a Phantom ll body I saw with this treatment. I’ll try and find that photo for comparison.
hoping this car apppears publicly in the future.

@JohnBloom

@JohnBloom Btw, bring a full tank of gas with you.
@alsancle Welcome to California!
Spectacular find! I happen to like B&S designs although I know I'm not in the majority.

@BLK-10001 I like this car, but mostly the B&S treatment is usually not a plus.

For some reason this car reminds me of the ex-Carole Lombard Packard someone had for sale a few years ago. Also a basket case, but worth something to the right owner.

@Peerless28 Jeff, do you have a picture? I can't find any Packard attributed to Carole Lombard.

@alsancle No picture. I saw it all the time for sale somewhere. Carole & Clark had a lot of premium cars, and it wasn't the V-1 2 Runabout or the Darrin. Maybe a '28 Single Six or an early 30s Eight. It was Condition #4, seller claimed provenance...maybe it was made up. It looked like a $10,000 car but they wanted serious $. Of course - every car Elvis touched with his left hand is an ELVIS car. Who knows.

So what is the status on this car? Is there any more information?

Great find!

Update: The car is in a trailer and heading home. I can confirm it is a 7th series chassis, which explains the 7th series dash. I can't speak to comments about the later intake, but the crankcase number and frame number are close enough that they would be considered original to each other. Hopefully the car makes it to Pebble one day.

I missed it by that much! 😂

@TomLaferriere 😂
If only your friends thought of you.

Here are some extraction pictures from Tuesday. Car has now safely made it to its new home.

Murphy Clearvision on a Model J chassis for comparison.

Cool pictures form 1951 posted by Zephyr over on the AACA.

Amazing find! Hope it is getting the restoration it deserves!

@mattgoist Agreed Matt. Car needs to be restored and go to Pebble. I just wouldn't want to see the bills.
