Back in the first part of the 20th century, before Duesenberg there was the Locomobile. The Model 48 used a 525 cubic inch straight six to power a massive chassis with an array of factory and custom bodies. Some of these cars were as much as $12,000. This was at a time when 1/2 that much would build what was considered a mansion.

Some more newspaper clippings.

@alsancle They do look like the same car. I wonder how many of those were made?

The Locomobile Model 48 was basically the Duesenberg of its day. Huge engine. Big car. Lots of power for its time and very expensive.

@REORoyaleFan The continued to product the Model 48 well in to the mid to late 20s. After 1925 by special order only. They were already an anachronisym by 1920. But that is what makes them such a cool collector car.
Didn't some of these cars come with exhaust pipes out the side of the hood?

@BLK-10001 Yes they did!

@Rambler0155 Hell yeah!

The model 48 sported a 525 CI engine across only 6 cylinders. Big bore and stroke. These were powerful/fast and expensive in their day. You were rich if you happened to own one.
