A rare one. 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 R-Code with the 427ci (425hp) lurking under the hood. Lightweight-ish Fairlane body + big-block bruiser attitude = the kind of sleeper that absolutely wasn’t a sleeper back then. #americanmuscle

Here is my R code 427 Cougar GTE. Pictures are 20 years old and the car was restored by someone else. The 427 in the GTE was detuned compared to the one in the Fairlane but still a beast of an engine.

@alsancle Cool. I have seen one of these in person in the last 30 years. Also a very rare car. Sporting a single 4 -barrel and a hydraulic came they were definitely not the same as the Fairlane but still something I want!

@Miles1978 My car came without its engine as it was donated to a Cobra replica. This was a common problem. I was able to get the correct block (all were part of a single casting day in Aug of 1967) as well as the super hard to come by heads. The rest of the stuff is Police Interceptor and easy to source. I sold the car with all the parts in the trunk. That is why it sits like it does.

Under 57 total units delivered for 66 and another 70-90 in 67 make this very rare.

Wasn't there a number of Comets built with the 427?

@REORoyaleFan They made around 50 in 67.
