The Gaylord Gladiator was an ambitious American luxury sports car conceived in the mid-1950s by brothers James (Jim) and Edward (Ed) Gaylord, heirs to a fortune built by their father, who invented the bobby pin. Determined to create the world's finest automobile, blending American power with European handling and elegance, they enlisted designer Brooks Stevens to bring their vision to life. The result was a striking grand touring coupe featuring innovative elements like the world’s first electrically retractable hardtop, a lightweight chrome-molybdenum steel chassis, and a lavish interior with fine woods and leathers. Here are two unpublished until now photos of the car at an auto show in Indiana in the 1950s.
