From about 1975 to the early 80s a standard transmission in an American car was a rare sight. Even more rare in a car like this Ford. Basically the Trans Am and Z28 were the only cars you saw the four speed in. Even the Corvette was mostly automatics by that point.

This is true, as someone who graduated HS in the early 80s the hunt for a 4 speed car was not an easy one. 90% of the cars that should have been a stick were automatics. Created a life long bias in me towards 4 speed cars. Took forever to find a 4 speed GTO convertible that I could afford.
