In 1939, the Pennsylvania Railroad built the Class S1, a massive Art Deco steam locomotive nicknamed “The Big Engine.” At 140 feet long and weighing over 500,000 lbs, it was the largest rigid-frame steam locomotive ever built. Despite its incredible speed and futuristic design, only one was ever made. It was a bold experiment in rail history, gone but never forgotten. #trains #artdeco #locomotive
