Here is another tire I was considering but it is very pricy (360.00). It does have a period tread on it.

I finally got around to ordering tires. I ordered the Firestone Balloon | 700-18 blackwalls from Coker. They were not cheap.

The tubes are 700/750-17/18 Tube | TR440 Center Bent Metal Stem and I ordered 2 extra in case some are bad. They are all currently blown up with 30lbs of air in them until I get around to mounting.

Here are a couple of pictures of one of the new Firestone Balloon 700-18 tires.

This is from when I was trying out tires and paint. It was 10 years ago and not sure those tires are even available anymore. I believe they were Fireston 700-18s.

Houston we have a problem. Like an idiot I didn't order a single tire last year I ordered 6 of the 700-18 Firestones. Then I sat on them for 8 months without actually seeing if they would work. I'm worried that the 32.5 inch outside diameter is too big. This is a a bad angle but you get the idea. They barely fit in the sidemounts and the hardware barely fits to hold them down. I have ordered a single 650-18 to see if that fits better.

Keep in mind the mounted wheels are wrong. They are 17" inch wheels running 700-17 Lesters.

So I ordered a single 650-18 Firestone. It has a 1/4 of an inch less diameter 31.25 vs 31.5. The real difference is in the tread width of 4 5/8 vs 5 5/8. The big problem is that the 700 tube will not work and the 650 tubes from Coker do not come center bent.

After much deliberation and debate we have decided to stick with the 700-18 tires. The number one factor being the tubes. There does not seem to be a center bent stem tube available for the skinnier tire. The other thing is that Wheel Repair Service of NE is going to mount them for me. The cost for the 6 wheels mounted and balanced is 1200. this is a bargain when you start breaking it down. If you have ever done this work you know what a nightmare it is. Here are the Firestone 700-18s mounted.

Wheel repair service of Auburn Massachusetts did the mounting and the balancing. They painted the weights mounted on the back of the rims. Some of the wheels have a lot of weight on them.
