8-35 Coupes

EDIT:  I merged the thread that Victor created with this one to create a single thread for the 8-35 Coupes. This car sat in a garage in Canada not too far from Kanata for 50 years.  About 15 years ago the gentleman that owned it has a quickly paint and interior job done to an otherwise original car.  It has body number 533-444 EDIT 2: It was sold to Brian Coffee around 2012.

I should have bought it when it was first found as the price was very reasonable. Barry Brown bought this car and a bunch of others as a package deal. It was sold via eBay to Brian Coffee in Dayton Ohio. Supposed to be in the process of a ground up restoration. Perhaps some of you are in contact with Brian? He should be a member of this forum.

I sent him an email and asked him to check out the forum. Anytime we identify another owner of a Royale that has a computer we should try to get them to join.

There are only 3 known coupes!! I'm really not feeling well about passing on the maroon one.

Should I say that design wise it is my favorite regular Royale? Or is that putting lemon on the open wound? ;-)Here is another one, in Belgium apparently.

Here's a photo of a Reo Royale 3 window coupe. It looks like it's one with the longer hood. This photo was taken in front of a home in Silver Lake, OH which is just a couple miles Northeast of Akron, Ohio. The home still exists as I've driven past it. While Akron was home to Goodyear & Firestone, there were also numerous smaller tire manufactures in the area as well. The tires on this Reo were made by Falls Rubber Company of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Cuyahoga Falls is the suburb in between Akron and Silver Lake. The tires were called Falls Roadmasters. Another interesting accessory on this car is the oval driving light.

I believe that is how the spare is held on the 8 - 31 . According to Joe Asuchak who owns one . I heard that Reo changed later on to this fastening on all there models . I have no proof . As it was a cheaper system .

Yes, the picture is from an 8-35... which brings me to a question: As you can see, it has a long Hood with five vent doors, as all the 8-35 I have seen have. The 8-31 models used louvers instead of doors, at least for 1931... so, the question is: why does the coupe from Belgium posted above shows four doors on the hood? It doesn't show the Royale lights that the 8-35 used, so it is either an 8-31 with hood doors perhaps because of a different year model or a... ? Any ideas?

When I saw Steve Kelly at Hershey he mentioned a 8-35 Coupe in Western NY. Is this the blue one that is pictured earlier in this thread or another car we have not mentioned? He thought that it came out of Europe.

That 8-35 coupe that I ran across at the Warsaw, NY show a couple years ago belongs to a fellow who lives in Honeoye Falls, NY. I'm trying to track down the photos I took and his name. He might be listed in the AACA roster. He also had a Continental Mark II and a '56 Nash Statesman, unusual collector taste!
It was solid red/maroon, is pictured on page 178 of the book "The Classic Era" by Beverly Rae Kimes. At the time of the photos in the book, it was owned by Mr. Frederic de Barsy of Belgium.

The Royale coupe owner's name was Gerd Hermann. It came to me in an unfortunate way. Receiving back issues from my friend, in the May/June issue of the Antique Automobile in Final Milestones is Mr. Hermann's obituary. The family may still have his cars.
