L88 vs LS6 — Which big block reigns supreme?
The C3 era gave us some of the most legendary big block Corvettes ever built. I've been having this debate with a buddy for years: the 1969 L88 427 vs the 1970 LS6 454. Both are absolute monsters, but they have very different personalities. The L88 was a barely disguised race engine — aluminum heads, 12.5:1 compression, and GM actually understated the horsepower at 430 to keep insurance rates down (real output was probably closer to 560 hp). The LS6 was the peak of the 454 big block with 450 rated horsepower and massive torque. Only 4,473 LS6 Corvettes were built in 1971. Both are incredibly rare and valuable today. Which one would you rather have in your garage?
