1929 Stutz 8 Model M Engine color?

HELP! Engine has some OLD red on part of it, repainted in black. But I see photos of the engine in green, gray, black and red. WHAT color is correct? Who can verify this?

Gray.

I have seen the gray, but not a trace of it on this engine or parts. My biggest hesitation is the old red paint I found. Sure did not expect any red at all.

Wrong! 1926-28 are grey. 1929 & 1930 are black. 1931 & up is green.

Well, that would explain why my engine is gray.

Well, that would explain why my engine is gray.

I'm confused, if the engine is supposed to be GREY why is the head BLACK?

It is a very impressive looking engine.
