It’s not an engine that is terribly difficult, but if you have not done 20 pre war engines……..you will be in over your head. The valves have threaded ends for the buckets. Guides are easy, but most parts available are of poor quality…….what body style is the car?
That is a nice engine Ed. Somebody has clearly poured a lot of money in to it.

I can only comment as the the quality of the work..........it's done first rate.
I've done many prewar engines. I don't know what to expect with the timing chain, idler sprockets, tensioner or details. And then the valve train itself appears to be very interesting.... More to discover and see how it was done.
Join the Stutz club. Most information on parts available will be among the members. Nothing unusual about it if you use to doing 9 main bearing cranks…….line boring can be a challenge. Bent cranks are common. Don’t attempt to hot rod it. Build it stock. Everyone tries to bump up compression……..bad idea. Post photos of the car and the engine please.

Another Club to join? I already am active in several clubs... One more? AACA covers all makes and years of collectible vehicles. Seems like that one is the first one to be involved with. Then if I own "classic cars" then the CCCA is the way to go. But wait, Packard's too, they have specific clubs. Yes, I am am a member, But then want about my Cadillac and LaSalle cars--- OK, membership with them as well..... And then my Chevrolets, Fords, Lincolns, Studebakers, AMC and race cars. ALL have clubs and some even have "sub-groups" I can't keep up!

If you want Stutz specific help, you should join the Stutz club. Anybody can help you with the Chevrolets and Fords.

Well, OK-- I'll consider that. Meanwhile, I have the front of it open and here is a picture. I see how the chain tensioners work. Pretty simple system here. I'll move ahead slow as I do with all the projects.
